BEGINNERS’ CATAMARAN COURSE FOR CHILDREN
The children’s catamaran is a sailing boat with two hulls and a single sail, specially adapted for children: it has a sail designed to prevent it from capsizing, offers excellent stability, is highly manoeuvrable yet smooth to handle, and the rudder is very easy to steer. It is undoubtedly the best sailing boat for beginners. Isla Canela has magnificent beaches for this activity; they are free of rocks, waves rarely break on the shore, and there is usually a steady thermal breeze throughout the summer season.
The course lasts 10 hours, spread over 5 sessions of 2 hours each. Under normal circumstances, courses run from Monday to Friday and it is recommended to complete them consecutively. However, we adapt to the client’s needs, whether to shorten or extend the duration. The only requirement is to be over 6 years old and a confident swimmer. During the course, the school will provide all the equipment: boats and life jackets.
- The boat chosen by our school for the courses is the Hobie Cat Catsy, a perfect boat for learning and enjoying yourself as it has no boom and is particularly safe.
- We use our own custom-made sails, courtesy of VOP SAIL

COURSE STRUCTURE
The course is structured in stages: on the first day, we cover sailing theory, boat assembly, basic safety rules and how to handle the equipment. We always use fun and engaging lessons to capture the children’s attention. The rest of the course takes place on the water, with a instructor present at all times, who will accompany the pupils in a support boat. If the instructor deems it necessary, they will assign three pupils per boat, with the aim of providing a sense of security, until the pupil is able to handle themselves with confidence. The maximum number of boats is three per support boat. Private lessons are also available for pupils who require more individual attention.
OBJECTIVE
The aim of the course is for students to sail independently in light winds, to be able to sail in all directions, to tack, jibe and return to the starting point. Students should be able to judge the direction of the wind and navigate in it. We will strive at all times to ensure that the lessons are dynamic and enjoyable.
