This is a linear route. The starting point is the Isla Canela neighborhood. This is a fishing village on the Guadiana River. Once we’re ready, we’ll walk along the Canela Estuary, enjoying wonderful views of the marshes. We’ll find ourselves in a natural environment, far from noise and civilization.
From the beginning, we’ll be immersed in a completely natural environment full of birds and all the typical vegetation of the tidal marshes. At the end of the estuary, we’ll connect directly with the Caño de la Luz (Light Channel). Halfway along this channel, there’s a detour to Punta del Moral, which will be used if the group becomes fatigued. The Caño de la Luz will take us directly to Isla Cristina, a beautiful fishing village. At this point, we’ll be on the Carreras River, which will take us to our final destination: the neighborhood of Punta del Moral.

The route is done at high tide halfway along, to have a favorable current throughout. We take advantage of the tidal current to make the route accessible. The complete route is 9.5 km. It’s possible to shorten it by taking the Caño del Moral (covering a distance of 6.8 km), which will take us directly to the Salinas del Duque salt flats in Punta del Moral.

During the tour, we’ll tell you about the fascinating naval history of the area, focusing on the different peoples who arrived by sea and the events that have taken place in the region, such as the settlement of the Tartessians and Phoenicians, the Romans, the Vikings, the sinking of the Concepción, the naval battle of Ayamonte in 1624, and the sinking of the San Bruno.
