This is a circular route. The starting point is the Punta del Moral neighborhood, a fishing village on the Carreras river itself. Once ready, we will travel along the Carreras River, enjoying wonderful views of the marshes and the charming fishing village of Isla Cristina.

Along this stretch, we can visit the Caño de Franco, a completely natural environment teeming with birds and all the typical vegetation of tidal marshes. After passing Isla Cristina, we will enter the Estero del Tamujar Chico, a natural marshland with old, abandoned salt flats. At the end of this channel is the Pozo del Camino tidal mill. On the return, we can stop to rest at Punta del Caimán beach in Isla Cristina.

The route is done at high tide halfway through, so we can enter and exit with the current. We take advantage of the tidal current for an easy and accessible route. At the entrance to the labyrinth of the Tamujar Chico Estuary, you can explore further or less depending on the participants’ interests, allowing you to adjust the distance covered to suit the group’s preferences. The route covers between 5 and 7 km, depending on weather conditions, the time booked, and the average skill level of the group.

During the route, we’ll tell you about the fascinating naval history of the area, focusing on the different peoples who arrived by sea and the events that have taken place in the region, such as the establishment of the Tartessians and Phoenicians, the Romans, the Vikings, the sinking of the Concepción, the naval battle of Ayamonte in 1624, and the sinking of the San Bruno.
