The route is a loop, sailing a distance of between 10 km and 40 km, depending on weather conditions and the time booked. We depart from the Kanela Sailing School facilities heading west towards the Portuguese coast.

The route is quite interesting because, once past the Vila Real de Santo António breakwater, the river’s influence disappears, and the water becomes crystal clear with white sand. Between towns, the beaches are deserted, offering opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery. The towns you can pass through on the journey are Monte Gordo (8 km) and Altura (12 km) on routes longer than 3 hours, and up to Tavira (20 km) on routes longer than 4 hours. For journeys longer than 4 hours, you can stop and enjoy a picnic on a deserted beach or eat at a pleasant beach bar. We’ll tell you about the incredible naval history of the region at the very sites where the events took place, and we’ll show you the spectacular natural setting of the lower Guadiana and the natural beaches surrounding Monte Gordo (Portugal).
